Oxygen deprivation can lead to epileptic seizures. Prolonged and severe cerebral hypoxia may potentially cause brain damage, altering the brain's structure or metabolism, thus making hypoxia a contributing factor to epilepsy.
During an epileptic episode caused by cerebral hypoxia, symptoms may include bluish lips and trembling, rapid loss of consciousness, upward eye rolling, nausea, vomiting, and headaches.
Epilepsy is generally triggered by:
- Genetic predisposition
- Prolonged birth complications leading to brain hypoxia
- Neurological disorders
- Work environment
- Excessive life stress
- Prolonged emotional tension
All of these factors can result in insufficient brain oxygen supply and induce neurogenic epilepsy.
Epilepsy patients should ensure adequate sleep, balance work and rest, avoid overexertion, and maintain a healthy diet rich in vegetables, fruits, fish, and protein.
