Stye, also known as hordeolum, is a very common eye disease. It is usually caused by staphylococcal infection.
In the early stage, it presents with local redness, swelling, heat, and pain, and an abscess may form in the later stage.
At the beginning of the disease, cold compresses can be applied. When the hard lump has not softened, it can be changed to warm, moist compresses, 3 to 4 times a day, 15 minutes each time.

Some highly effective antibiotic eye drops can be used, such as levofloxacin hydrochloride eye drops, tobramycin eye drops, or erythromycin eye ointment, to control the local infection.
When the symptoms are severe, oral or intramuscular antibiotics are needed.

After an abscess forms in the later stage, incision and drainage can be considered.
