After experiencing pneumothorax, it is important to pay attention to the following: 1. The recurrence rate of pneumothorax is high. If symptoms suggest a recurrence, seek medical attention promptly. 2. It is recommended that all patients visit a pulmonologist 2 to 4 weeks after the initial occurrence to check the absorption of the pneumothorax, assess for underlying lung diseases, and determine if further treatment is needed. 3. Patients may consider resuming normal work and activities once symptoms disappear. However, strenuous exercise and contact sports should only be resumed after imaging confirms the complete resolution of the pneumothorax. 4. Quitting smoking can significantly reduce the recurrence of primary pneumothorax, with a relative risk reduction of approximately 40%. Therefore, patients should quit smoking. 5. It is advised that patients who have not undergone definitive treatment (such as partial pleurectomy) should avoid diving for life. 6. Patients with pneumothorax who have not undergone closed thoracic drainage should avoid air travel until treatment or imaging confirms the absorption of the pneumothorax.
